My dear friends,

Last Monday, our Putts and Prayers Golf Outing took place at Indian Hills Country Club. Blessed with outstanding weather, our golfers enjoyed their day on the course. A celebratory dinner followed the Outing at which we honored "Hoops" of Northport. While many of you probably cannot identify a face with this title, they are a wonderful group of men who play basketball together weekly and enjoy one another's company.

Our reason for honoring them at the Outing was not their basketball prowess but their commitment to care for others through their outreach. Many of you have seen their advertisements for their good works which includes:

• Sponsoring a Blood Drive in the summer when the need is great

• Gathering clothing and toys for children at the Infant Jesus Home at Christmas

• Hoops for the Troops sends baskets of goodies to our soldiers

• Assisting on the Wounded Warrior Program

• Caring for our CYO Program

• Endless support of our Parish Social Ministry Program and even purchasing a water buffalo for Holy Spirit Parish in Dediapada, India

In accepting the award, Mark Kleczka mentioned that this group grew out of our Holy Name Society. Inspired as they were as young people by their forefathers in the Holy Name, they sought to reach out to others as they saw the members of the Holy Name Society reach to others when they were young. Like all things, there is a reason for everything and "Hoops" of Northport continues the fine work of the Holy Name Society in a new and different way. I'm sure that you all join me in thanking them––they are a gift to our parish. A plaque will hang in the Parish Center marking this occassion and reminding all of the gifts these men share with us.

God Love You,

Father Peter
